About Us
The Bake Shop serves Alaska’s best breakfast for every visitor in Girdwood, Alaska. We offer delicious, cozy homemade breakfasts. Come and enjoy the heartwarming aroma of freshly baked breads and buns.
We create our breads with the original sourdough starter, which was once the “prized” possession of a fortune-seeking gold miner in this valley 100 years ago.
The Bake Shop is proud to display fine art work by two local artists: Jules Wolfe, multi-talented in many different media, as well as Bridget Brunner who creates stained glass objects. Their one-of-a-kind creations are not just for decoration – you may purchase them right here, at The Bake Shop!
Cuisines & Services
The foundation of every good bakery is its starter. Ours is a true sourdough, nursed and nurtured for almost 100 years, originally ‘mothered’ from a sourdough miner who mined for gold in our beautiful valley.
For over forty years we have cared for, fed, and doubled our starter every day, and like any loved thing, it has it’s own unique temperament that tests and challenge our bakers daily.
For lunch choose from a great selection of sandwiches, made to order with sourdough bread, pizzas, salads, and homemade soups. Don’t forget to leave room for our “famous” sweet rolls or cinnamon rolls, you will want one when you see them!
Location
We are located at the bottom of chair 3 and adjacent to the Sitzmark. You can hit the slopes in no time, right after you enjoy your delicious breakfast or lunch and a visit with locals and visitors.
